Sax on the Beach
Homee dad and Sidekick Sue have returned from the Bahamas. HD knew this would be a trip to remember from the first night. Picture this, cuddled up with your man in a hammock hanging between two palm trees. Warm 73 degrees and the sounds of the ocean as the waves caressed the soft sand that was finer than fine. The warm breeze that carried the salty smell of the ocean accompanied by the haunting sound of the sax.The feeling was so relaxing, not quite sure if this was caused by the magic of the island or the consequences of the rum. This was night one in Grand Bahamian Sandals. What else could SKS have wanted - she had it all!
The trip just got better from there, we managed to snorkel just off Sandals Cay which was a short 10 minute ride off the mainland. This island most of which was owned by Sandals resort had all you could want. There was a sting ray farm on the far end which of course had the occasional escape. So quite often while swimming a ray would wander by just checking out the action.
With just a week HD and SKS were not able to take all the usual events in but this did not stop us from enjoying the culture and town. We went into the down town a couple of times and just walked the streets. Amazing people who were very friendly and helpful. At one point we were able to view the ships that had come into port and saw the new Royal Caribbean that is HUGE!
We did take one excursion that at first we hesitated because it was rather expensive, this was the trip to Atlantis. Forget the expense, if we return we will do it again. The aquariums and exhibits were well worth the expense. The Hotel Resort is nothing but classy. The best part though was the water park - we spent most the day going down water slides, a 1/4 mile rapids tube ride. The tubes eventually were caught by a conveyor belt and you were lifted high into the air showing an amazing view of the island. Then once up there you had a choice - drop on tubes slides !! or take the ABYSS - total dark - straight down - scream and pray! It was absolutely fantastic. Of course there was also the straight drop into a tube that takes you through the shark tank - video attached. This was scary because at the top you could see just how high you were and how steep the drop.
When we booked this trip we were worried as generally we love cruising and were not sure how we would enjoy staying at one spot. This was a first for us. We have come to the conclusion that although we will never give up cruising ( cruise next year - who's coming?) we would definitely do this again. We thought it would be a hoot with a group. So contact SKS my personal bookie and secure your spot on the HD & SKS 2012 somewhere warm adventure. I promise it to be a memorable experience.
It appears I could not bet the video to flip but you will get the point!
